Hans is a Smug Gorilla in the Animal Crossing series. He first appeared in Animal Crossing: New Leaf and has appeared in all subsequent games. He is the only Smug Gorilla in the series. His English name is a popular masculine name in Scandinavian countries, places characterized by cold temperatures and mountains. His English catchphrase "groovy" is possibly a pun relating to being cool. He strikingly resembles a yeti, which relates to the cold climates associated with his name and the potential pun involving his English catchphrase. His favorite saying is similar to that of Rosie, except "purr" is replaced by "turn.";

In New Horizons, Hans has the fitness hobby and will wear sporty shades and lift heavy dumbbells while exercising.
