日本語Animal Crossing Pocket Camp is the first game in the game series to be released as an app for smartphones and tablets. However, other games such as Animal Crossing: amiibo Festival and earlier games in the Animal Crossing series were released for different Nintendo consoles.
Unlike previous games, the core of the game is not to live in a village, but to manage a campsite. It is accessible by car to the surrounding recreational area, which hosts a variety of activities and animal campers. The camping theme with RVs and campgrounds is already known in Animal Crossing: New Leaf - Welcome amiibo, which was first introduced.
Animal Crossing Pocket Camp can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. To play the app, a smartphone or tablet with a 64-bit processor is required to play the app. Memory of 2 GB or less may cause stability issues, so 2 GB or more of memory is recommended. Also, the operating system must be iOS 11.0 (iOS 13.0 or later recommended) or Android 5.0 or later. The app is free to download but includes micropayments.
It was scheduled to be released in September 2016 and early 2017, but the release was delayed due to the production of the Android version of Super Mario Run. On June 23, 2017, Nintendo announced that the app would be released at the end of 2017. On October 23, 2017, Nintendo announced that it would be streaming live the day after October 24. On October 24, 2017, Nintendo streamed the gameplay of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp on the official YouTube Nintendo channel. On March 25, 2021, Nintendo Korea announced that the Korean version of Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp would be released on March 29, 21st.
