Nindori's name is directly derived from Nintendo DREAM, which is often abbreviated as Nindori. He has continued to be the magazine's mascot separate from the Animal Crossing series since he first appeared, and is often referred to as Nindori-kun. His species, specified as part of the design contest, may be a pun on ้ณฅ (tori), the Japanese kanji for bird. His English catchphrase ใใฏใฝใฆ (dokusou) could either mean "originality" (็ฌๅต) or "riding solo/doing thing one's own way" (็ฌ่ตฐ), both referring to his origins. Nindori is currently the only ostrich who is absent from the series.
Appearance
Nindori is based on the orange variety of Nintendo GameCube released in Japan. As such, his body is orange with black-tipped wings and tail feathers. His eyes are very large, almost entirely black pupils with just a small portion of his sclera showing, somewhat like the GameCube's controller ports. The sides of his face have fanning vents, and the back has the lid used for inserting game discs. (Both of these are shown to be functional in Nintendo DREAM's manga.)
