Nindori (ニンドリ, Nindori?) is a Jock Ostrich in Doubutsu no Mori e+. He was created as a collaboration with Japanese gaming magazine Nintendo DREAM
as part of a reader contest to design a villager who would serve as the mascot for the magazine,
which began in Vol. 94 and had the winning design, by Suzukaze-san from Tokyo, announced in Vol. 100. Nindori can only move to the player's town if his e-Reader card, which was exclusively included in Vol. 102 of the magazine, is scanned.

Nindori's name is directly derived from Nintendo DREAM, which is often abbreviated as Nindori. He has continued to be the magazine's mascot separate from the Animal Crossing series since he first appeared, and is often referred to as Nindori-kun. His species, specified as part of the design contest, may be a pun on 鳥 (tori), the Japanese kanji for bird. His English catchphrase ドクソウ (dokusou) could either mean "originality" (独創) or "riding solo/doing thing one's own way" (独走), both referring to his origins. Nindori is currently the only ostrich who is absent from the series.


Appearance

Nindori is based on the orange variety of Nintendo GameCube released in Japan. As such, his body is orange with black-tipped wings and tail feathers. His eyes are very large, almost entirely black pupils with just a small portion of his sclera showing, somewhat like the GameCube's controller ports. The sides of his face have fanning vents, and the back has the lid used for inserting game discs. (Both of these are shown to be functional in Nintendo DREAM's manga.) Nindori has a few yellow feathers on the back of his head, and his beak and feet are yellow.
